Newest ring done! plus more

So here it is finally. I'm really happy with it. I think pearls are beginning to be one of my favorite stones to work with.

Here's the wax for my new pendant design. I'm a little worried about the detailed areas on the side panels. Everything is way smaller then it looks in the render. I'm still deciding what kind of finish to use on the various areas. Black patina, sandblasting, and high polish are what I'm debating.

I'm hoping to whatever jewelry/casting gods may be out there that it is in silver with enough time to submit it to this years Bridge volume.

Project update

Here's my progress on the pearl ring. Laser welded the posts for the pearls and set the three faceted onyx.

I only have 2 weeks to make new stuff for this years Bridge. I felt this pendant could be done the fastest of my sketched designs so I started the other day.

I bought this agate on eBay for the center piece of that pendant. Creepy eye.....maybe I should call this one soul caliber. The smaller three stones will be moon stone (top), sodalite (middle), sun stone (bottom).

I should be working.....

Resume and Portfolio

My roommate Dave (who does everything for Bern) made my resume and portfolio out of the images Brian Smith took a while back. Professional photography of award winning art compiled into a professionally designed presentation. The people I know and live with are awesome.

...and I love dropping the word professional.

ALSO! My pearl ring is back from the caster and I have started getting it ready to be set. I get really excited when I can see my face reflected in one of my CAD designs.

Allison inspired me to post sketches on my blog so here we go;

I don't update this enough

Heres a couple pics of the stuff I'm working on right now.

This one will have black and white pearls followed by a row of faceted stones the opposite color of the pearl. Onyx with the white and cz's with the black.

My second channel set ring. It has been milled and cast, just have to clean it up and set the center prong and side 3mm cz's.

Cast and ready to be set

Here it is, waiting for the stones I'll be setting into it. I am planning to put alexandrite in the center and CZ's on the sides.

My internship has been pretty much been finalized. I begin on August eighth, three days a week. When I picked up my ring David showed me some of the projects he was working on. I watched him set thousands of dollars worth of diamonds flawlessly into both gold and platinum rings. I can't wait until I am able to do things like that.

Printed, ready to cast

So here it is, finally. David, the jeweler who has the equipment to produce stuff like this is also having the ring cast for me in silver. After that I just have to get the cz's and alexandrite I want to set and it will finally be completely done. As an added bonus David asked me if I would want to come in and work with him. It'll be a little bit of a commute, but this is an opportunity I will not pass up. Plus it will be an internship getting me the final credits I need to graduate.

Its finally done!

My first real attempt at producing a printable ring from rhino is finally complete. I just got off the phone with David Dorian from 3Dworks and it will be printed in wax this weekend. I even get to go see the machine in action when I pick it up.

Heres what it looks like:

1st place in my category in the Bridge

I can"t believe it! I took home first place in the three dimensional design and mixed media category for my mokume tigers eye pendant. I had known the the coral and pearl piece got in but not until they called my name to present me the award did I know about this.

My set of four elemental rings got into the art show and received honorable mention, and I received the Dr. Robert A. Daniel award in art for all my work in jewelry.

All in all it was a pretty fantastic day! This all just makes me itch to get back into my studio. After I graduate in May I plan on working all this summer to produce a new body of work.

Man I'm so excited

BSC Art Show submissions

I submitted a bunch of my work to the art show at school on Thursday including my latest ring modeled in Rhino.

My teacher, Rob Lorenson, helped me render it in Bryce and it looks awesome now. I was amazed at how easy to use Bryce was in comparison to rendering in Rhino and Maya.

Heres the image I photoshopped together from a couple different viewpoints:

I should know in the next couple days if anything of mine got in.

This semester I have been learning how to render jewelry in rhinoceros. Here is the first of my designs.

A teacher at RiSD is going to help get my models ready to print. They will be printed in wax so that I can use them for a loss wax cast at Bridgewater.

Some of the pieces I made in advanced metals, Fall 07 at Bridgewater State

My idea for the semester was to recreate some of the ideas in the ancient art/religion/science of Alchemy. I tried to bring some of the broader concepts from the processes thought to turn base metals into gold through the medium of Jewelry.

These First three were part of a series of loss wax cast rings made to represent the four elements. Each contains their elemental symbol to help identify which they are.
Water
AirEarth

The fire ring is set with a Star ruby making it a lot more diffucult to photograph. Unfortunatly I haven't been able to get a decent shot yet.

This is a pendant in the same Alchemy series. It is meant to represent the four elements combining and reforming into the two opposing forces. I chose a mokumegane pattern the had four colors to show the mixing of the elements into one. I also had a tigers eye custom cut for me to represent the two forces becoming one.

This pendant was a birthday gift for my mother. She had given me the pearl, and I found the coral at a gem show in Malboro. The two just seemed to go perfect with each other.
And finally here is a set of earrings I made to sell at a local craft fair. They come in 4 colors, hematite black shown here, red jasper, white agate, and green adventurine. I posted the black ones up on etsy for $13. Heres the link
